Become an Interpreter/Translator
Culture Connect is always looking for reliable and flexible interpreters who are interested in helping others in their community.
- Do you speak, write, and read English and at least one other language fluently?
- Are you interested in using your language skills, helping your community, and earning money at the same time?
- We hire interpreters on a contract basis for medical, school, social, and legal appointments.
If you are interested, please contact us. You will need to prepare the following list of documents:
- a copy of your resume
- a current 3-year Driving History Report (MVR) for a $5.00 fee. You can obtain it in person (locations) or online.
- an annual health screen, and
- documentation of rubella, rubeola (measles), and varicella (chickenpox) immunity by titers (antibodies) or vaccination record
- history of immunization of negative Mantoux PPD within the past twelve (12) months or annual TB screenings for known positive PPD
Download our list of Health Service Locations where you can get the required medical documents (if you cannot view the PDF, make sure to download a free copy of Adobe Reader). When you contact us with your interest in becoming an interpreter, we will send you additional information about this opportunity and invite you to attend our next training.
Why You Should Become an Interpreter
- You find joy in helping others who are in need. You love to see the delighted faces of others after you have interpreted for them because it makes you feel as though you have done your part in being able to help them with their problems.
- You enjoy speaking more than one language and just being able to help people to cross the bridge of communication is very rewarding for you.
- You enjoy meeting people and being of assistance to them to communicate with doctors, teachers, etc. Being an interpreter will take you to areas which would otherwise not open to you. It is an interesting activity - never the same.
- Inadequate knowledge of English is a huge disadvantage. It creates many obstacles in the daily lives of immigrants/refugees/asylees in the United States. As an interpreter, you help these people by eliminating their disadvantage while they are receiving their services.
- You want to be able to work for yourself, have flexible hours, use your language skills, and help people.
