Interpreter Orientation Training
People shaking hands
You may or may not have interpreted before. Regardless of your previous experience, we offer an introductory orientation training for all new Culture Connect, Inc. interpreters. We will provide you with tools and tips so you can be a professional interpreter. In addition, we would like to give you an opportunity to ask questions about interpreting and related issues. Furthermore, it just is a great chance for you to meet us and other interpreters.

This orientation training will be very interesting. Some of the topics of this session are:

  • The legal framework for the protection of LEP (Limited English Proficiency) clients/patients’ rights
  • How to conduct a pre-conference
  • How to interpret in first person
  • When to advocate for a client/patient
  • Your role(s) as an interpreter

In addition, we will test your language & interpreting skills.

Please contact us to sign up for this training.

Discussion Group

This group will allow time for interpreters:

  • to meet and discuss professional issues and struggles with peers
  • to present difficult cases for advice, support, and encouragement
  • to discuss any feelings/struggles raised in interpretation encounters
  • to break isolation and connect with other interpreters
  • to take care of self and reduce the risk of burn-out and
  • to continue to develop professional skills and identity

The groups will be facilitated by Dr. Jennifer A. Watts, a practicing psychotherapist, and the format will rely on sharing by individual group members.

The group meetings are free for all current Culture Connect, Inc. interpreters. We just ask that you RSVP to confirm your spot.

Group sessions are limited to 12 individuals.
